WANNA BE FARMERS WHO BOUGHT A RUNDOWN FARM & FIXING IT UP

Life & Farm Update

A couple of weeks ago (beginning of May) my father’s best friend Keith drove over 12 hours to come and stay with us for 5 days. We stayed on his property in May of 2021 to help out at his property and learn a lot of ranch work to take home and apply to the farm.

He has known how badly I have wanted to fix up this property since we bought it in October 2020. So he came up to help us and give me a blank slate to work with.

There was a lot of wood on this property and if we tried to reuse it, we would just spend year after year fixing boards and wasting money so Keith said to take it all down.

Every time I would go out and look at this I would get so overwhelmed with emotion because 95% of the time I am the one doing the majority of the work on the property, especially during the week when my husband is working.

We rented a mini excavator for a week and he went to town. While he was doing demo work I was using a chainsaw and taking down trees. Our orchard had 22 trees. A lot were old and dying and stop producing.

Here is the aftermath from the before pictures. I cried happy tears because of the breath of fresh air this brought me.

So this is what I have been busy working on now that the weather is nicer. So I have been trying to get as much work done outside so we can start bringing more animals in.

We also have been planning what we want to do with the property. The orchard is going to be fruit and nut trees and an animal and market garden next year.

So to say we have been busy has been an understatement. However, we are so excited to be getting closer to our dream.
